One of the tried and true traditions of the holiday season is the telling of ghost stories.  of a cold evening, particularly around Christmas eve, people would gather around a roaring fire with a cup of cheer and listen as they were told scary ghost stories.  It was tradition.  The night settled early and completely around each little home and the doors and windows struggled to keep the cold air and all manner of dangers out while the family settled in for a long evening. The atmosphere was ripe for ghost storytelling. Why the houses and cottages and hits and such places shimmied and shook but still stood.  Inside the people who relied on the walls for protection gathered close together.  What better time than to regal each other of frightening tales of spooks and specter than at the time when each was most vulnerable?  And then, of course, as the fire burned out and the night grew deeper, to each go off to his or her corner to face the night alone, with a head full of spirits…
